3 Signs You Should Review Your DOT Compliance Program

If you are in charge of the management of a fleet of commercial vehicles, then DOT compliance is probably very important to you. You might have a program in place within your business that you use to help you stay on track with the Department of Transportation's requirements. These are a few signs that it might be time for you to review your DOT compliance program so that you can determine if any changes need to be made.

1. You Have Recently Received a Citation

One of the main points of having a DOT compliance program in place is so that you can help prevent citations and fines from the Department of Transportation. Of course, this does not mean that you might not still receive one of these citations. If one of your drivers has recently received a citation for one reason or another, such as not having a log book or driving a vehicle that is overloaded, then it's time to take a look at your DOT compliance program. Then, you can look for mistakes that might have been made and can make changes to help ensure that your company and your drivers do not receive any more citations.

2. You're Facing a DOT Audit

If you have received notice from the Department of Transportation that you are facing a DOT audit, then you could be really nervous about what is going to happen and unsure about what to expect. This is a good time for you to review your DOT compliance program to help ensure that it's up to par based off of the requirements of the Department of Transportation. Then, you can feel confident in knowing that things should go well when the audit does take place.

3. You Haven't Reviewed Your Program in a While

Even if there is nothing going wrong in regards to your commercial vehicles, it's always a good idea to review your DOT compliance program periodically. Then, you can help ensure that it's up-to-date with new laws, and you can look for ways to improve it. If this is something that you haven't done in a while, now is the time to consider reviewing your DOT program.

As you can see, there are a few situations in which it's a good idea to review your DOT compliance program. If you are in any of these situations or if you are just concerned about DOT compliance, consider reviewing your program to make sure that it's sufficient and to determine if there are any changes that need to be made.
