Keep Your Students Occupied And In Line While En Route To A Cultural Event

Visiting a cultural event may be very educational for your high school class. If the proposed destination isn't nearby, a charter bus can be used to transport you and your pupils. Instill some guidelines and keep your students busy while en route to the cultural event.

Go Over What Is Expected

Rules will keep everyone in line and prevent the risk of an injury. The driver of the charter bus will need to focus on the road and will expect everyone to remain in their seats unless a trip to the restroom is necessary. Divide your class into pairs. Pair each student with someone who they get along with, but who will not be likely to encourage the other student to be disruptive with them.

Assign seats to each pairing. Any students who have been problematic during class time should be assigned to a seat near where you will be sitting. Give the students a list of items that can be brought along on the trip and a list of things that are prohibited. Since many charter buses allow food and drinks, you could allow the students to bring a light lunch with them.

If you are concerned about the cleanliness of the bus and do not want to risk food and drink spills, limit the students to bringing bottled water with them and make arrangements to have the charter bus driver stop at an eating establishment so that you and your pupils can grab a bite to eat.

Prepare Some Viewing/Reading Materials

Find out if the charter bus company offers DVD players or LED screens that can be used to watch video recordings. If so, record a short documentary that is about the cultural event and that showcases some of the sights that will be introduced during the outing.

Plan on airing this footage during the trip to inform the students about what they may encounter. Make photocopies of the brochure that pertains to the cultural event and give a copy to each student. The information will enlighten the students and will help to keep them busy during the ride.

Use Chaperones And A Cleanup System

If you allow chaperones to ride on the charter bus, you will have assistance with keeping track of the students' behavior. The chaperones can also help with monitoring the students during the event. Assign each chaperone to several pairs of students.

Brief the chaperones about their duties. Upon reaching the event, have the students retrieve their belongings and throw away their empty water bottles. Inspect each row of seats before allowing the kids to exit the bus.
